Help for Searches

We try to return the best possible results when you search for a wine on our site. The following help for searches is intended to guide you through the basic Wine-searcher search functions.

Exclude certain word(s) from searches.
Exact matches on wines and auction or retail.
Search by bottle size.
Historical prices.
Email alerts when wines rise above (or fall below) set prices.
Further analyze prices on your own PC.
Check demand for a wine. Only available to Pro Version users

• Enter the key words of the wine's name in this box. You can exclude word(s) from search results by using "not" immediately before the word. If excluding several words, put "not" before each of them.
  Example: Search for the wines of Chateau Musar excluding their less well known white wine.

• For non-vintage wines enter a "NV" in this field, or enter a vintage, or leave blank for all available vintages.
  Example: Locate non-vintage Louis Roederer champagne.

• All matching wines. Locates all the merchant entries that include the entered word(s).
• Exact Matches. Locates the wines that exactly match the entered word(s).
• Exclude auctions. Works in the same way as "All matching wines" but excludes wines coming up at auction.
• Auctions only. Locates wines that are coming up at auction.
  Example: Locate available vintages of Petrus coming up at auction.

• Use this option to restrict your search to merchants based in a particular country.
• Within the United States, you can also restrict the results to wine stores in a particular state or to "Reciprocal" States (i.e. States that allow reasonably unrestricted wine deliveries between themselves).
• There are two special entries; "Europe" for all EU countries, and the option to search only those merchants who offer "World-Wide Delivery".
  Example: Locate a US supplier for Cloudy Bay.

• Select the currency you wish to use to value the wines. See the price notes page for details on how we convert prices.

• Normal. Shows results to your screen.
• PC Download. Download the results to a spreadsheet for further analysis.
  Example: Download all entries for 1996 Leoville Barton to my PC.

• Any. This is the recommended setting if your primary intention is to locate a wine. The other options are useful if your primary intention is to value a wine.
• Bottles. Those entries with a bottle size of "Bottle".
• Halves. Those entries with a bottle size of "H/Bottle".
• Magnums. Those entries with a bottle size of "Magnum".
• D-Magnums. Those entries with a bottle size of "D-Magnums".
• Cases. Where the bottle size starts with "Case", which can include 12 and 6 bottle cases.
• Others. All other bottle sizes.
  Example: Locate magnums of 1995 Cristal champagne.

• Check prices as they were in any of the past three months, or past four years. The currency exchange rates are the historic rates that applied at that time.
  Example: Find the price of 1995 Le Pin 2 Years Ago.

• Enter a minimum price to remove entries that are below this value. This can help to more precisely find fine wines that use common words in their name. Do not use currency symbols.
  Example: Check if anyone is selling 1990 Dom Perignon at over $2000 USD per case.

• Enter a maximum price to remove entries above this value. This can be used to receive notification when wines become available at your price point (search for the wine and if no entries are found under the price, click the "Email Alert" button). If pricing in cases, use in conjunction with the "Bottles/Cases" option. Do not use currency symbols.
  Example: See if Elderton Command Shiraz is available for less than $50 USD.
